Background
Feedback from the various events that NIEeS ran made it obvious that some communities needed the opportunity to meet on more than one occasion in order to pursue the appliance of eScience technologies to their research. NIEeS trialled two successful working groups; "Simulations for Nuclear Waste" and "GridGIS". The latter has resulted in a number of funded projects that explore the integration of Grid technologies into GIS research.
In late 2007, NIEeS then had an 'announcement of opportunity' in Nature to attract proposals for additional working groups. A further four working groups were accepted.
