Grid-GIS working group

The Grid-GIS working group is a NIEeS funded working group to explore ways that the academic GIS community can incorporate Grid technologies into their research. The working group meets several times a year to maintain an up to date awareness of both GIS and Grid technologies. The working group is ideally positioned to maximise the growing potential of Grid technologies utilising webservices and other technologies that the GIS community are already familiar with.

The NIEeS Grid-GIS working group set up an OGC GRID Ad Hoc Meeting at the last OGC meeting, which occurred at Edinburgh University on the 28th June 2006. The programme for the event can be found here. The meeting was a success, with two great outcomes: The OGC are now going to explore the utilisation of Grid technologies and there was a good size audience that learnt about Grid technologies.
