ATHAM workshop

July 25-28 2005

General information

The whole event has three elements.

First, the group of ATHAM developers, which is now distributed worldwide, will meet on Monday 25th July to discuss further development of the model. In preparation of this all are working on a new joint version (you never can be sure that everything still fits together after a while, even if you set fix rules) which is planned to be ready for the event.

Second, we will host a workshop on ATHAM development and applications on Tuesday 26th July. This includes talks by the developing group and we would like to invite people to give shorter presentations - so delegates should be actively reporting on similar activities, possible problems that could be solved with ATHAM etc.

Talks by the developers will include:
Hans-F. Graf, Cambridge: ATHAM history and philosophy
Michael Herzog, Princeton: Using ATHAM as a Cloud Resolving Model: Some Promising Results and the Need for an Improved Dynamical Core.
Christiane Textor, Gif sur Yvette: Microphysics and scavenging processes in explosive eruption columns
Gunnar Luderer, Mainz: Injection of Smoke into the Lower Stratosphere: A Modeling Study of the Chisholm Fire
Joerg Trentmann, Mainz: ATHAM applications: Fires and atmospheric chemistry

Third, on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th July, we will hold a hands-on tutorial to ATHAM, where the developers will give practical introduction in fromt of the computers. Participants at the tutorials are encouraged to also contribute to the workshop on Tuesday.
